Mediation & Arbitration

Carol Bailey, Alexis Squier and Kathleen Royer offer professional mediation services that provide effective and inexpensive Family Law dispute resolution.  Carol Bailey & Associates also works with people who are unrepresented and pursuing mediation or arbitration.

Mediation is often the best alternative to costly litigation or prolonged negotiation conducted through attorneys.  Mediation allows you to stay in charge of your life rather than giving control over to attorneys and judges, who do not know you or your family.  Early mediation before a case is filed or soon after filing a case, and before either party chooses to go to court, can be the most effective and cost efficient process available, including engaging in the collaborative law process.  Early mediation provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the legal process and avoid the conflict and negativity that often follow a court hearing.  Mediation can offer a place to understand your legal rights, discover creative solutions, reduce conflict, save money and develop a process that treats all family members with respect.

Carol Bailey has extensive mediation training, having completed the intensive 40-hour professional mediation training at the University of Washington and other advanced mediation trainings.  Carol is trained in the collaborative law approach and she serves as a Volunteer Settlement Conference Master with the King County Superior Court.  Prior to that, in the early 1990s, she trained at Northwest Mediation Service and taught mediation skills to students in middle school.  Much of her work for the last decade in Guardian ad Litem cases was serving as a mediator between the parents in real time conflicts regarding their children.  She is available as a mediator and as an arbitrator offering unusual expertise in Parenting Plan disputes.

Kathleen Royer is also an experienced mediator.  Kathleen has completed substantial professional mediation training, including specialized training in parent-teen mediation and conflict resolution.  Kathleen has extensive experience in issues relating to children and families including child support, adoptions, special education, dependency and guardianships.  Kathleen serves as a Volunteer Settlement Conference Master with the King County Superior Court.

Alexis Squier has extensive training in mediation and conflict resolution focused on promoting civility and respect in mediation and in litigation.  Alexis completed the intensive 40-hour professional mediation training at the University of Washington and training in Collaborative Law.  In addition, she serves as a Volunteer Settlement Conference Master for King County.
